Description:

The University of Potsdam (Germany), Dept. of Linguistics, has an
opening for a full professor (German W3 level) in theoretical
computational linguistics.

Candidates are expected to cover the following topics in in teaching
and research: logic and formal language theory; mathematical
properties of grammars; computability of linguistic
formalisms. Besides, a background in stochastic NLP, such as learning
from corpora or probabilistic parsing, is desirable. Participation in
the ''Sonderforschungsbereich'' on information structure
(Univ. Potsdam and Humboldt Univ. Berlin) will be appreciated.

Target date of appointment: August 1, 2005.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and a ''habilitation'' or equivalent
accomplishments in terms of publications.  Unless the candidate
already is a professor at a German university, initial appointment
will be for five years, after which tenure can be given without
further application procedures. Exceptions (i.e. immediate tenure) are
possible for candidates from abroad or from outside the university
system.

The University of Potsdam aims at increasing the number of women on
its faculty and thus encourages applications from women. Handicapped
candidates will be given preference if qualifications match those of
