Description:

Assistant Professor in Computational Linguistics [Ref. C/571/09]

(A joint appointment in the Department of Chinese, Translation and
Linguistics and the Language Information Sciences Research Centre)

Duties:
The application of linguistics and language technology constitutes a
major area of recognized strength at City U.  Its Linguistics Programme
offers a broad range of courses encompassing a variety of interests
and theoretical approaches.  Its Language Information Sciences
Research Centre is one of the six University's Research Centres.
Besides research, the candidate's teaching contributions should
include teaching and supervision at both the undergraduate and
postgraduate levels, including BA, MA, MPhil and PhD.  He/She may also
be asked to contribute to teaching in other areas such as language
acquisition, psycholinguistics, mathematical linguistics,
sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, dialectology and linguistic
typology.

Requirements:
A PhD with a focus on Computational Linguistics or relevant area and
strong research and publication records in corpus linguistics,
computational lexicography, lexical semantics and/or syntactic
analysis involving Chinese; and should have prior experience in
natural language processing involving corpus development and
enhancement, data mining, information extraction, language technology,
etc.  Good knowledge of computational modeling or the cognitive basis
of linguistic processes is also desirable.  Preference will be given
to those who can interact well in team work and undertake
cross-linguistic analysis in a variety of domains, as well as links

Salary and Conditions of Service:
Salary offered will be highly competitive and commensurate with the
appointee's qualifications and experience.  Appointment will be on
fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Fringe benefits include annual
leave, medical and dental schemes.  Provision of housing benefit is
under review.
