Description:

The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University
of Maryland, College Park, seeks to make an Associate or Full
Professorial appointment in Second Language Acquisition. This is a
tenure-track position, with salary based on a nine-month contract. The
successful candidate will be a specialist in cognitive aspects of SLA,
an expert in second language research methods, an outstanding teacher,
with an extensive research and publication record in such areas as
maturational constraints and psycholinguistic processes in adult SLA,
preferably with data-based work on parallel issues in instructional
and/or language assessment contexts. He or she will be expected to
teach specialized graduate courses in SLA and research methods for
M.A. and Ph.D. students, seek externally funded research grants and
contracts, lead faculty-student teams conducting basic and applied SLA
research, and provide other administrative service as needed.
Minimum requirements: (a) For Associate: Ph.D. in SLA or comparable
field; extensive record of scholarly publications; positive teaching
evaluations; a minimum of five years at the Assistant Professor level;
national reputation. (b) For Full: As for Associate, but with a
minimum of five years college experience at the Associate level;
national and international reputation.

Desirable qualifications:
Fluency in one or more European, East Asian, or Middle-Eastern
languages.

Salary: Associate: $60-75,000, Full: $70-90,000, both
depending on qualifications and experience
