Dear Subscribers,

I am an international student from Argentina who moved to Ypsilanti to study
linguistics and TESOL at Eastern Michigan University. I have been able to be in
contact with amazing faculty members and outstanding other students who are part
of the linguistics program.

I remember that in one of my first linguistics courses at EMU one of the people
who worked at the Linguist List, Michael Appleby, was brought into class to tell
us about the work he had been doing for his own research and for the Linguist
List. I was fascinated about it and the different things a University supports
students with. I was hooked. That was in fact my first contact with Linguist List.

Last November I was given the chance to start getting involved with the Linguist
List. I did not know what to expect of it. I had heard a lot of good things
about it and about what they did but I had not experience it much myself. I was
introduced to an amazing group of students and faculty who are hard working and
fascinated with any dimension of linguistics. I was also surprised by all the
different projects in which Linguist List was involved and developing.

I was then happy to see that people in the Linguist List encourage each other to
do their best and are supportive of all the other members.

Some of the tasks I do today involve approving people to allow them to be shown
in our vast list of linguists around the world who submit their work to us and
make sure that the information is accurate.

Also, I post Journal entries and tables of contents of Journals that are
submitted to Linguist List. I classify the "For Your Information" entries that
are submitted by linguists around the word. Currently, I am helping a group of
people at Linguist List make some changes in the database by moving files from
one server to another.

I am extremely happy to have been able to join the Linguist List. Even though I
have just started working at Linguist List, I have been able to learn a lot from
the type of work done, the submissions of research linguists send us, and the
rest of the team at Linguist List.

One of the most outstanding characteristics of the team is that every one of the
members is very professional and is determined to do their best to make sure
things are done correctly and accurately. I have seen the results of such
efforts from letters sent by linguists thanking different members of the team
for their work and aid. This makes me proud and grateful of being part of such
team and able to learn from them.

Thank you,
Maria

Subject: How to donate...

This Year the LINGUIST List hope to raise $48,867. This money will go to help
keep the List running, by supporting all of our Student Editors for the coming year.

There are many ways to donate to LINGUIST!

You can donate right now using our secure credit card form.

Alternatively you can also pledge right now and pay later.

For all information on donating and pledging, including information on how to
donate by check, money order, or wire transfer, please visit:

http://linguistlist.org/donate.html

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return
(U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact
your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match any
gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU
Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple
administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST,
without costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your
company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
