The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics offers a scholarship for
research leading towards a PhD in the field of spoken-language comprehension.

The successful candidate will develop a dissertation project within the
ongoing research themes of the Comprehension Group.  The Institute's
website, especially the most recent Annual Reports, can provide more
information about the group's research, currently centred around the two
institute projects 'Phonological Learning for Speech Perception' and
'Decoding Continuous Speech'.  The research will certainly involve
laboratory experimentation, and candidates should have native or
near-native competence in Dutch (preferably) or German (with willingness to
learn Dutch).  Candidates with a background in experimental
psycholinguistics or experimental phonetics may receive preference.  With
respect to the research project, a topic concerning prosodic structure is
currently of most interest to the group; methodologically there is scope
for research on language perception by adult or by infant subjects,
involving a variety of approaches, which may include cross-linguistic
comparisons, the use of neuroscientific techniques, or computational modelling.
