A funded postgraduate scholarship is currently available within the
Department of Computer Science for a PhD track student. The student will
work within the CHAINS project (CHaracterising INdividual Speakers). This
project involves the search for dynamic indices of speaker identity which
remain invariant despite substantial changes to the speaker's style of
speech. Speech corpora featuring unaltered and altered speech will be
recorded, and text-independent indices of speaker identity sought therein.

The student must be familiar with basic digital signal processing and
capable of independenly developing speech analysis programs. A background
in phonetics is also desirable.
