Call Deadline: 20-May-2005

Meeting Description:

The main objective of the conference is to provide an interdisciplinary forum
for discussion of theoretical foundations of machine learning as well as their
relevance to practical applications.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
the design and analysis of learning algorithms, computational models of machine
learning (e.g., on-line learning, learning via queries, inductive inference,
statistical learning), specific algorithmic approaches (e.g., margin-based
algorithms, MDL estimation, boosting), learning complex models (e.g., neural
networks, Bayesian networks, logical formulae, grammars, instance-based models),
machine discovery, and applications of machine learning to other fields (e.g.,
data mining, web mining, bioinformatics).

CSSP welcomes papers combining empirical inquiry and formal explicitness. The
conference aims at favouring comparisons between different theoretical frameworks.

The sixth Syntax and Semantics Conference in Paris (CSSP 05) will take place at
Paris 7 University, on September 29-30 and October 1, 2005.

CSSP conferences combine a general session and a thematic session.

GENERAL SESSION
submissions for the general session may address any topic on
        - syntax
        - semantics
        - the syntax-semantics interface.

THEMATIC SESSION
the thematic session will focus on
The syntax and semantics of non-declarative sentences:
        questions, exclamatives, and imperatives.

CSSP 05 invites submissions for 20-minute presentations (plus ten-minute
discussions). Abstracts should be at most 2 pages in length (including examples
and references) written in French or English. The same person may submit at most
one abstract as a sole author and one as a co-author.

Abstracts must be anonymous.

Abstracts should be sent by e-mail (plain ASCII, rtf, ps or pdf) to:
        info at cssp.cnrs.fr
Please write the (first) author's name plus the word 'abstract' in the subject
line of your message (e.g., 'Dupont abstract'), and include author name(s),
affiliation, contact information and the title of the abstract in the body of
the email.

Abstracts should reach us by April 30, 2005.
