Meeting Description:

The 10th English in South-East Asia Conference: A Decade of Growth (10 ESEA)
will be held at the University of Brunei Darussalam from 12-14 December 2005.
This is the latest in a series of annual conferences held among the countries of
the region. Previous ESEA conferences have been held in Singapore, Brunei
Darussalam, Malaysia, Australia, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Indonesia.

The conference seeks to explore issues surrounding the roles and functions of
English within the region of South-East Asia. Participants are invited to
address the following conference themes:

Literature in English in SE Asia
SE Asian varieties of English
Multilingualism
Roles and contexts of English in SE Asian societies
Using language in new technologies
English in the media in SE Asia

The beautiful campus of Universiti Brunei Darussalam lies on the shores of the
South China Sea, a few kilometres outside the capital city of Brunei Darussalam,
Bandar Seri Begawan. The conference will be held in the recently opened
Chancellor's Hall of the University. The university is set in spacious gardens
with its contemporary architecture simultaneously reflecting the Islamic
heritage of the country.
