2006 International Conference on Japanese Language Education (ICJLE 2006)

Theme: Japanese Education: Entering a New Age
Dates: August 5-6, 2006
Venue: Columbia University, New York City

The Association of Teachers of Japanese (ATJ), in cooperation with the National
Council of Japanese Language Teachers (NCJLT) and Columbia University, will host
a two-day international conference on Japanese Language Education in New York
City on August 5-6, 2006. This will be the first such major international
conference to be held outside of East Asia.

The conference will provide a forum for Japanese language educators from around
the world to discuss common issues and challenges. Through panel and paper
presentations, keynote speeches and informal small group discussions, the
conference aims to foster the development of an active, cooperative community
among educators of Japanese language, linguistics, and literature, within and
outside of the United States.

The conference will feature several keynote speakers (including Susan Napier and
Merrill Swain), a number of invited panels on topics of wide professional
interest, and individual paper and poster presentations.

Abstracts are now being accepted for paper and panel presentations. The deadline
for submissions is October 31, 2005.

Topics for paper sessions may include (but are not limited to): Articulation,
Assessment, Culture, Heritage language, Innovative methods, Instructional
technology, Linguistics, Literature, Study Abroad, Teacher training, Program
management, and SLA.
