Description:

The Linguistics Department of the University of Chicago invites applications for
a full-time position of Lecturer in Swahili beginning in the autumn quarter of
2006. The initial appointment will be for one year, with an expectation of a
renewal for a second, two-year period, followed by subsequent three-year
contracts. Graduate training in linguistics is a prerequisite; a PhD is
preferred. Native or near-native command of Swahili is required, and experience
in teaching Swahili at the college level is a strong plus. The expected teaching
load is SIX quarter-courses per year, one of which may be a linguistics course.
A complete application will include a CV, the names and contact information for
three professional references, and a complete description of relevant teaching
experience, as well as a statement regarding linguistic interests and a sample
of publications in Linguistics or on Swahili.  Applications will be reviewed
beginning January 30, 2006, and will be accepted until the position is filled.
