Meeting Description:

The Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca and the Università degli Studi di Milano are pleased to
 announce that they will host a conference on Sign language linguistics and the application of 
information technology to sign languages. The conference will take place in Milan from June 22nd
 to June 24th 2005.

The first part of the conference will be devoted to contributions to the study of sign languages 
based on formal frameworks (or relevant to such frameworks). The second part will be devoted to 
contributions illustrating current research on applications of information technology to sign 
languages. This call for papers concerns *only* the first part of the conference.


The organizing committee
(Carlo Cecchetto, Carlo Geraci, Sandro Zucchi) 

Abstracts from all areas of formal linguistics on any aspect of sign language grammar 
(syntax, semantics, morphology, phonology) are invited for 30 minute presentations plus 10 
minutes for discussion. The abstracts should not exceed two pages including example 
sentences and references. They must be submitted via email (to 
alessandro.zucchi at unimi.it) in PDF, plain text, or Word format. Please include title, author, 
affiliation and contact information in the body of the e-mail message, or on a separate sheet. 
We are planning to have 6 invited talks and up to 8 selected talks.

The languages of the linguistic sessions of the conference are English and International 
Sign Language, we are organizing an interpreting service.

Deadline for submission of abstracts is March 15 2005. Notification of acceptance will be 
given by March 31st.

The invited speakers for the linguistic sessions of the conference are:

Diane Brentari (Purdue University)
Carol Neidle (Boston University)
Roland Pfau (University of Amsterdam)
Josep Quer (University of Barcelona)
Markus Steinbach (University of Mainz)
Ulrike Zeshan (Max Planck Institute, Nijmegen)

The conference will be concluded by a plenary talk by 

Harlan Lane (North Eastern University).
