SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS

Two-day conference on evaluation and text types at Augsburg University,
focusing on evaluation in the new media and cross-cultural aspects of
evaluation.

The Department of (English) Linguistics at Augsburg University (Wolfram
Bublitz, Monika Bednarek) will host a 2-day conference on evaluation and
text types, to be held from the 22nd to the 23rd of July 2005.

For the purposes of this conference evaluation is defined as
-the broad cover term for the expression of the speaker's or writer's
attitude or stance towards, viewpoint on, or feelings about the entities or
propositions that he or she is talking about. That attitude may relate to
certainty or obligation or desirability or any of a number of other sets of
values. (Thompson & Hunston 2000: 5)

-and overlaps with competing notions such as stance and appraisal.

Proposals are invited for papers addressing various aspects of the analysis
of evaluation in different types of text. We welcome specifically papers
dealing with evaluation in the new media (internet, email etc) and
cross-cultural aspects of evaluation, but other papers will also be considered.

We invite abstracts and proposals of no more than 300 words to be submitted
via email by February 28, 2005. We expect to provide notification of
acceptance or otherwise by March 31, 2005.

ABSTRACTS

Abstracts should be 250-300 words long and should be submitted by email to:

Abstracts should contain:

- Title of the presentation
- Name(s) of the author(s)
- Affiliation of the author(s)
- Both e-mail and postal addresses
- Any special audio-visual/IT requirements

Presentation slots will be 45 minutes long (30 minutes for presentation and
15 minutes for questions)

FURTHER CONFERENCE INFORMATION

Further details about the conference, including travel and accommodation
information, programmes and abstracts are/will be posted on the conference
website (see above). There will be a conference fee of
25 Euro (postgraduate students excluded).

The 2nd International Joint Conference on Natural Language Processing
(IJCNLP-05) will be organized by the Asian Federation of Natural Language
Processing (AFNLP: http://www.afnlp.org) on the beautiful Jeju Island,
Korea, on October 11-13, 2005.

SCOPE

IJCNLP-05 invites the submission of original papers in all areas of
natural language processing, including, but not limited to:

- the lexicon, phonology and morphology
- word segmentation
- part-of-speech tagging
- syntax and parsing
- semantics and pragmatics
- discourse and dialogue processing
- machine translation and multilingual processing
- question answering
- information extraction and text mining
- text summarisation
- natural language generation
- natural language applications, tools and resources
- linguistic, psychological and mathematical models of language

In addition to the above, we are particularly keen to include within the
scope of the conference work in speech technology and information retrieval.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION

The proceedings of the conference will be published as a volume in the
Springer-Verlag LNCS/LNAI series, and all submissions should therefore be
formatted in accordance with the Springer guidelines, which can be found
via http://www.springeronline.com/lncs.  Submissions should be at most 12
pages in length in the Springer format, and should be made electronically
via the IJCNLP05 home page at http://www.afnlp.org/IJCNLP05/.

DEADLINES

Paper submission deadline: Friday 15th April 2005
Notification of acceptance: Monday 23rd May 2005
Camera ready papers due: Monday 13th June 2005
IJCNLP-05 Conference: Tuesday-Thursday 11th-13th October 2005
