Linguistic Field(s): Sociolinguistics

Call Deadline: 15-Feb-2005

Meeting Description:

This year's sociolinguistics session at PLM, in keeping with the main conference theme, will look
for theoretical approaches bridging sociolinguistics and other areas of research. This necessarily
involves a commitment to the interdisciplinarity which may lead to creating a new quality rather
than just combining theories or entering new research contexts. The organizers would like to
encourage the presentation of new theoretical approaches and new contexts of research in the
hope that the result will work against essentialism and ethnocentrism in sociolinguistic study.

Poznan Linguistic Meeting, 22-24 April 2005

Sociolinguistics session - call for papers

INTERDISCIPLINARITY AND CURRENT SOCIOLINGUISTIC RESEARCH

This year's sociolinguistics session at PLM, in keeping with the main conference theme, will
look for theoretical approaches bridging sociolinguistics and other areas of research. This
necessarily involves a commitment to the interdisciplinarity which may lead to creating a new
quality rather than just combining theories or entering new research contexts. The
organizers would like to encourage the presentation of new theoretical approaches and new
contexts of research in the hope that the result will work against essentialism and
ethnocentrism in sociolinguistic study.

We suggest that the following topics be addressed:

COGNITIVE SOCIOLINGUISTICS

IDEOLOGIES OF LANGUAGE AND GENDER IN A CROSS-CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE

BRIDGING QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE RESEARCH IN SOCIOLINGUISTICS

BRIDGING SOCIOLINGUISTICS AND PSYCHOLINGUISTICS

COMMUNICATION ACROSS SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CONTEXTS

NEW DISCOURSES: LINGUAGE IN PSYCHOTHERAPY

We will gladly consider other topics related to interdisciplinarity and sociolinguistics.
