Description:

The Program in Linguistics at the University of Minnesota's Institute of
Linguistics, English as a Second Language and Slavic Languages and Literatures
(ILES) is creating a pool of potential applicants to draw from should the need
arise for Teaching Specialists/Lecturers/Temporary Assistant Professors spring
semester 2005, summer term  or fall semester of 2005.  Priority will be given to
completed applications received by January 10, 2005 for spring positions and
April 1, 2005 for summer positions.  Spring semester appointment dates are
January 13-May 29, 2005.  Spring semester course instruction needs will likely
include LING 3001 and 5001, Introduction to Linguistics (two sections), and
possibly LING 5801, Introduction to Computational Linguistics. Duties will
include teaching students, holding office hours, supervising teaching
assistants, evaluating students. Additional requirements for a temporary
assistant professor position may include engaging in departmental research and
service to the Institute, College, and University. Qualifications: Essential
qualifications include an ABD in Linguistics, at least one year of teaching
experience in Linguistics, and excellent verbal and written communication
skills. Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. in Linguistics and at least two
years' experience teaching Linguistics courses.  Candidates may be asked to
provide evidence of excellence in teaching. To apply, send (1) letter of
