Papers on all areas of Romance linguistics are welcome for the general session. For the workshop, we invite papers on first and second language acquisition, including bi-lingualism. Research focussing on phonological, lexical, syntactic, semantic and/or pragmatic issues of any Romance language is welcome.

Presentations take thirty minutes, with an additional ten minutes for discussion. Abstracts should be anonymous, no longer than two pages, including references and examples, with margins of at least 1-inch, font size 12, single-spaced. Submissions are limited to a maximum of one individual, and one joint abstract per author. All authors who present their work at the conference will be invited to submit their paper for the Proceedings.

Abstracts should be sent to Goingromance at let.uu.nl no later than September 16, 2005. Only PDF files and e-mail submissions will be accepted. The files should be anonymous both in the body of the text and the filename. Please make sure all fonts and figures are correctly rendered. Attach a separate file containing: title, author's name and address, affiliation and e-mail address. Please indicate whether your paper is intended for the general session, or for the workshop, by mentioning 'general session' or 'workshop' in the header of the abstract. Papers not conforming to these requirements cannot be taken into consideration. The program will be posted by the end of October.

CALL for papers for the section 'Reproduction/Continuity and Innovation in Language and Communication in different Language Cultures' of the international conference 'Innovations and Reproductions in Cultures and Societies' / Innovationen und Reproduktionen in Kulturen und Gesellschaften' (IRICS), which is to take place in Dec. 2005 in Vienna 2005. 

Working languages: German and English. Presentation: 25 min. + 5 min. discussion. All papers will be reviewed and published in the proceedings of the conference and in a separate volume at Peter Lang Verlag.

This section of the IRICS conference, Vienna, Austria Dec. 2005 aims at the description of changes in languages and communicative habits which took place in different language cultures within the past 30-40 years or are still going on.

The section does not focus on the details of language change within language systems but is aiming at the description and reflection of:
- Changes in the lexicon of languages and their impact (through replacement, functional loss, development of neologisms, loan, influence from other languages/varieties, manipulative use, change of meaning etc.)
- Changes in the area of text types, discourse types and forms and norms of communication (through the development of new forms or the disappearance of previous ones etc.),
- Changes in the area of social symbolism of pronunciation forms and language varieties and their consequences (through changes in prestige, social mobility, up- and downward movements within the social stratification)
- Changes in the status and social symbolism of the own and other languages caused by global and/or national processes which caused a change in the prestige of languages.

The interest is centered both on the description of driving forces responsible for linguistic/communicative innovations and reproductions of present linguistic and communicative forms as well as to give an outlook on possible future developments. The section hopes for contributions from many and different languages and language cultures which might eventually allow an overview on general tendencies of linguistic and communicative innovation and reproduction in the world.
The section continues the work started at the 2003 IST-conference which has been published in 2005 in the volume ''Standard Variations and Language Ideologies in different Language Cultures around the World. Wien u.a., Peter Lang Verlag. S. 430 p.'' ISBN 3-631-53212-1.
