Description:

The Department of English invites applications for the post of Professor of English 
(Psycholinguistics and Second-Language Acquisition including Learning and
Teaching English as a Second Language in Schools) (full professorship on the
salary scale W3) to be appointed from October 1st, 2005.

Applicants should be capable of covering the whole subject area in their
teaching and should have research interests that include a focus on learning and
teaching English as a second language in schools. They should be familiar with
modern theories of second-language acquisition, including language learning and
teaching in schools, and be able to contribute to interdisciplinary cooperation.

The applicant's duties in the two subject areas of learning/teaching English as
a second language and of linguistics include:
- offering courses for all study programmes in the subject area of English
- participating in the development of new study programmes (including   
  interdisciplinary ones)
- participating in committee work within the university's academic structure. 

Applicants are expected to have appropriate teaching experience and to be
well-qualified to undertake academic research. This should be documented by
post-doctoral research work or some equivalent qualification. Applicants who
have not held the post of professor should either have gained this qualification
as a "junior professor" (i.e. have held a "Juniorprofessur" at a German
university), or have completed a post-doctoral research project
("Habilitation"), or have acquired an equivalent qualification while working as
a researcher at a university, in a research institute or while working in
industry or in some other appropriate field.

Experience of teaching English at a school is also desirable.

Applications should include a CV, copies of degree certificates, a list of
publications, and a list of courses taught at university level. 

Applications from women are particularly welcome, and women will be given
preference over male applicants with the same qualifications and abilities,
unless this is outweighed by other factors.  This does not affect the rights to
preferential treatment of disabled applicants who have the same qualifications
and abilities.
