The inaugural meeting of the Workshop on Computational Linguistics held in
Split, Croatia, focusing on the topic of 'Computational Modeling of Lexical
Acquisition'.

This is the final call for papers for the Workshop on Computational Modeling of
Lexical Acquisition held in Split, Croatia.

The Croatian Language Technologies Society (CLTS) and the University of Split
are pleased to sponsor the inaugural meeting of the Workshop on Computational
Linguistics focusing on the topic of ''Computational Modeling of Lexical
Acquisition''. We will build on the topics in formal-theoretical and
computational linguistics, in particular on issues in learnability, complexity
and modeling of lexical knowledge, including but not limited to:

a. machine learning methods for lexical acquisition,
- speech and language segmentation into lexical units,
- induction and learning of phonological and morphological structure,
- inducing formal grammars from discovered structural properties,
- learning lexical semantic properties and lexical disambiguation,
- computational models of psycholinguistic aspects of lexical acquisition,
b. corpora, evaluation and applications,
- induction of part-of-speach information for tagging and automatic annotation
(via e.g. clustering and classification, using Vector Space Modeling or other
strategies),
- corpora for learning phonological and morphological regularities and a common
gold standard,
- applications using machine learning and automatic lexical acquisition (e.g.
tagger, ontologies, textmining),
- evaluation strategies and methods for learning approaches.

Time: 25.-28. July 2005.

2005 Summer International Conference on Generative Grammar will be held at
Konkuk University, Seoul, Korea, on August 8-11, 2005 organized by the Korean
Generative Grammar Circle (http://www.kggc.org).

Abstracts for the conference are invited from all areas of generative grammar.
Topics of the abstracts may include syntactic theory, syntax-semantics
interface, syntax-morphology interface, syntax-phonology interface, syntactic
acquisition, and others. The conference will consist of the general session, the
poster session, and a series of lectures from the invited speaker, Jason
Merchant (University of Chicago), who will address several core issues on
ellipsis developed within the theoretical background of Minimalism. The idea of
the poster session is to discuss the work-in-progress that have not completely
matured for a full publication yet.

Abstracts should be anonymous and may not exceed 2 pages (A4), including
examples and references, with 2.54 cm (1 inch) margin on all four sides and
should employ the font Times New Roman 12 pt. Submissions are limited to a
maximum of one individual and one joint abstract per author. Please send a
separate file containing the following information: the title of the paper, the
author's name, affiliation, e-mail address, telephone number, and the preferred
session (general or poster). Abstracts should be sent ELECTRONICALLY as Word or
PDF attachments to Sun-Woong Kim at swkim at kw.ac.kr no later than March 31, 2005.

Abstracts will be reviewed by readers, and authors will be notified by April 30,
2005. Each speaker of the general session will be alloted 20 minutes with 10
minutes for discussion. Accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of
2005 Seoul International conference on Generative Grammar, which will be
distributed to the conference participants. All presenters will be asked to
provide camera-ready copies of their papers in publishable form by July 15,
2005. The text should be single-spaced and the general page limit is 20 pages
including appendices and references.
