Description:

The Department of Linguistics of the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Thammasat
University, in Bangkok, Thailand, has an opening for a full-time teaching
appointment in the field of Linguistics or Applied Linguistics, starting in
May or June 2005. Applicants must have an MA or a PhD in hand at the time
of application. Preference will be given to native speakers of English with
an outstanding academic record (plus teaching experience, if any) from
accredited institutions. The base monthly salary for this position is
22,248 baht plus an 8,000 baht housing allowance. The application deadline
is 1 April 2005. To apply, please send us the following documents:

- A letter of introduction (Together with a curriculum vitae, please also
provide another letter delineating your personal information, academic
background and interests in more detail, and any contribution you think may
benefit linguistic studies and research in Thailand and Southeast Asia.)

- Copies of all degree certificates, diplomas and certificates

- Copies of transcripts of tertiary grade results (For graduates of
British, Australian or New Zealand institutions who are unable to produce
MA or PhD grade results in alphabetic or numerical form, please send us an
official letter from your university's registry, which certifies your
degree completion.)

- Three letters of reference (Two of the referees must be past instructors
or thesis supervisors. Apart from stating their familiarity with your work
and interests, they should also evaluate your personal character and
ability to coordinate with colleagues, etc.)

- Three passport photos (In the case of e-mailed applications, we only
accept passport photos through the post)

- Samples of published work (if any)

Application packages can be submitted by post or e-mail. Please note that
regardless of the outcome of the application, all supporting documents will
not be returned to you. A face-to-face or telephone interview may be
necessary and will be administered only at the applicant's expense.

The Department of Linguistics at Thammasat University is the oldest in
Thailand and the only to offer a bachelor's degree in Linguistics as well
as a master's degree which focuses on Linguistics for Communication and a
PhD degree in Linguistics. The Department also publishes the Journal of
Language and Linguistics. The Journal is the only specialized linguistics
publication of its type in Thailand. It provides a forum for publication of
original articles in any area of language, linguistics and language teaching.
