Meeting Description:

The 6th Annual Conference of JAIS will be held on Tuesday, September 23,
2005, at the Sibuya Campus of Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo, Japan.
Proposals for oral and/or poster presentations at the conference are now
being accepted.

1)  Deadline for submission: August 1, 2005

2)  Length of proposal (ABSTRACT): Approximately 300-500 words (or about
400-800 Kana-Kanji characters if written in Japanese), clearly stating
the nature of the problem that you are addressing.

3)  Author's information: Attach a separate information page/sheet to
your proposal, indicating (a) title of your presentation, (b) your full
name, (c) affiliation, (d) mailing address, (e) email address, and (f)
telephone/fax number.

4)  Presentation time: 30 minutes, plus 10 minutes for discussion.

5)  Notification of acceptance: Official notification of acceptance of
proposals will be sent to successful applicants via email (or by fax) by
the end of August 2005.

6)  Languages: Presentations should be made either in English or Japanese.

The conference aims at bringing together various aspects of research in
semantics and pragmatics, based on, or otherwise pertaining to, linguistic
constructions from at least two different languages. Papers are invited that
contribute to research on semantic and pragmatic theory, the interface between
semantics and pragmatics, as well as more empirically based presentations that
report on the evidence from collected data in a contrastive perspective. We also
welcome papers on the methodology and typology of contrastive studies with
special reference to semantics and pragmatics.

The abstracts of 25-minute talks should be not longer than one A4 page and
should contain a clear indication of the objectives, method, and languages
discussed.

Abstracts should be anonymous and can be sent either electronically or as hard
copies. If sent electronically, please send them to:

The title of the email message should be 'TCSP 2005 abstract'. In the body of
the message, please provide the following information:

1. Title of the presentation (this should be identical as that on top of your
abstract)
2. Name and affiliation
3. Email address
4. Full postal address

If you are submitting by post, eight copies of the abstract should be sent:
seven anonymous for refereeing by the Conference Programme Committee and one
with your name and affiliation. Please attach a card with the personal details
1-4 above. Please send the abstract to: Professor Dingfang Shu, Journal of

200083.
