The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:

Would you like an opportunity to work in a dynamic, challenging environment
where creativity is encouraged, teamwork is paramount and contributions are
rewarded? Yahoo! is the No. 1 Internet brand globally and the most
trafficked Internet destination worldwide. Our success is no accident.
Yahoo! is home to some of the brightest minds on the Web. These are
thrilling times for us, which makes it a great time for you to join the
Yahoo! team!

Job Information:
When a search engine shows you a summary of each search result, do you find
yourself imagining how to make it better? Do you think result summaries
could do a better job helping users find what they're looking for? Are
visions of AI techniques, user models, or linguistic analyses dancing in
your head?

The Yahoo! search team is looking for a well-rounded applied researcher who
is equally at home studying user behavior, manipulating large data sets,
designing algorithms, and whipping up tools for testing the latest
hypothesis. You will work with a team of scientists and engineers dedicated
to improving the system that produces summaries of search results. You will
help determine what makes a good summary given the varied information needs
of millions of users.

Essential Responsibilities
Generate ideas for improving search result summaries, relying on user
research, statistical analysis, editorial reviews, and your own intuition.
Work with the development team to turn those ideas into practical,
efficient algorithms. Help define the product strategy to develop
innovative features that differentiate our search engine from the
competition and maintain Yahoo's leadership position on the Internet.
