Dear Subscribers

You may not realize that LINGUIST List is a lot more that what you might receive
in your email inbox everyday.  Besides my regular LINGUIST List duties, I work
on one LINGUIST List project that is not seen on a day to day basis.

The Dena'ina Archiving Training and Access (DATA) project is a collaborative
effort between the LINGUIST List and the Alaska Native Language Center (ANLC) to
create a digital archive of Dena'ina Athabascan, a language spoken by less than
75 speakers. This project has not only allowed me to travel to Alaska to work on
the creation of the digital archive, but also to study Athabascan at the ANLC
and conduct fieldwork with speakers.  I will be returning to Alaska this summer
to attend and co-teach a course in introductory language technology at the
Dena.ina Language Institute.  Without the support and training from LINGUIST
List, this opportunity would not be available.

LINGUIST List has provided me and the rest of the Graduate Assistants with
invaluable opportunities and training.  Donate now to help keep these
opportunities available to future graduate students.
