Dear LINGUIST List supporters,

It's now the middle of my second year as an employee of LINGUIST, and a few
moments ago I re-read my fund drive letter from last year, just to take
inventory of the changes that have occurred of the past twelve months.

In my letter from last year, I was both amazed at how quickly life can change,
and extremely grateful for the opportunities my job at LINGUIST had presented to
me. Now, in 2005, I can see that both of the sentiments I expressed last year
are still true.

In the past year, I have worked on the Calls and Conferences area of LINGUIST,
participated in the E-MELD conference, and spent four months in Alaska working
on the Dena'ina (Athabascan) Archiving, Training and Access project. I have also
become an amateur computer programmer, and I'm learning things like Coldfusion,
XSLT, and Protege, all of which will enable me to pursue a career in language
documentation and archiving.

None of these things would have been possible without the financial support of
our generous donors. I'd like to offer my sincerest thanks to all of you for
helping to shape the education of the linguists of the near future. If you
haven't donated yet, please remember that every little bit helps!
