Sponsored by the Anthropological Museum of the Federal University of Goiás
(Brazil), the Colóquios Lingüísticos are a year-round series of talks on
South American indigenous languages (as well as related topics, such as
indigenous literacy).  The colloquia offer an opportunity to bring together
linguists from different areas of expertise, providing South Americanists
with a forum for the discussion of their research with a diverse audience
(which includes experienced and beginning linguists alike, undergraduate
and graduate students, as well as members of the general public).

Each academic month a different scholar is invited to report on original
research on South American languages (many of which are seriously
endangered and scarcely documented).  This month's speaker is Dr. Frantomé
Pacheco (University of São Paulo/FAPESP), who will present a paper on
'Pronominal system and referential strategies in Ikpeng (Karib)' this
coming Friday, May 6.  Also known as Txikão, the Ikpeng language is spoken
by around 350 people in the Xingu region, Central Brazil.
