Description:

Position Summary/Purpose
The Second Language Acquisition (SLA) specialist is responsible for
research and integration of second language acquisition (theory and
application) best practices.  S/he will research, analyze, and adapt SLA
models and assist with development of learning materials.  The specialist
will work on projects and products which deal with a variety of languages
and language-related topics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

SLA Support for Design/Technology/Production
-Partner with instructional designers using SLA expertise to apply best
practices to design, development of materials.
-Generate content, scripts, test items for a variety of learning materials
and related products (draft, edit, critique)
-Deliver training and/or presentations as required
-Support development and prototyping of learning products
-Support design, redesign of technology-based elements (authoring tools,
templates)
-Coach, mentor internal and external team members

Research and Development
-Research learning theory and current trends in language for pedagogy for
project application; stay abreast of developments in second language
acquisition
-Lead, participate in and contribute to research syposiums and forums;
collect and communicate research results, and make recommendations
-Create/maintain relationships with other researchers and academic
insitutions to share findings and resources;  Attend relevant conferences,
events; maintain memberships in appropriate organizations
-Assist with analysis/research for new Center initiatives; assist with
proposals, grants and deliver papers, reports and presentations
(individual and group)
-Plan and deliver papers, reports and presentations  (individual and group)

English Content
-Responsible for growth and maintenance of a strong collection of English
language source materials for use as instructional exemplars and activities
(authentic Reading and listening text samples; learning objects, etc.)
-Responsible for centralized English Content Database, including updates
and contributions (e.g. locate, select and assign text levels, enter
annotations, comments, etc.)

Team Support
-Coordinate with others whose work impacts on or is impacted by second
language acquisition (staff, contractors, client, etc.)
-Attend team meetings as defined and provide status reports as required

Min Qual-
Masters required in applied linguistics, second language acquisition or
related field; PhD strongly preferred; Fluent in at least one language
other than English strongly preferred - (Chinese or Korean a plus)
