Description:

Interchange Corporation is looking for a Research Scientist to take our
cutting-edge search technology to the next level.  We are looking for someone
who enjoys developing algorithms and heuristics that cover the entire gamut of
information science from natural language processing, to data mining, to
statistically based information retrieval, to ontologies/taxonomies, to symbolic
AI.  We are looking for a researcher, but we are particularly interested in
someone who can move their ideas into a production environment in a short period
 of time and who is deeply motivated by improving the search experience for
millions of users.

Founded in 1999, Interchange Corporation is a leader in local search and
paid search.  Recently Interchange Corporation launched local.com, which is
fast becoming the premier local search engine.  Local search is one of the
hottest areas in Internet search, and it involves connecting users with
businesses, products, and services in their local area.   

Primary Responsibilities
- Design algorithms and heuristics to improve the relevancy and user
experience of our local search engine.
- Work closely with Product Management and software engineers to have
designs implemented.
- Act as the technical lead or the project manager for R&D projects.
- Design and supervise qualitative tests of the search engine and its
components.

Job Qualifications 
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information
Science, Statistics or related field (Ph.D. preferred).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (you need to be able to
explain your ideas in detail to software engineers and you need to be able
to give a high-level summary of your ideas to managers)
- Experience working in a commercial environment is preferred (especially
experience with Internet search).
- Experience developing next-generation prototypes and products (especially
for TREC, DARPA, ARDA, and other R&D organizations)
- Must have an interest in working on a large variety of projects in a
team-oriented environment
- Ability to use a scripting language (e.g. Perl) and a familiarity with
relational databases (including SQL).
