================================================================

The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Department: McGill University - Montreal
Job Rank: Postdoctoral Fellowships
Specialty Areas: Psycholinguistics, Neurolinguistics, Cognitive Neurolinguistics

Description:

Two postdoctoral fellowships are available to begin as early as January, 2006.
The Post-doctoral fellows will collaborate with members of the Centre for
Research on Language, Mind and Brain on a project related to language and
cognition, which fulfills the centre mandate for interdisciplinary study within
these fields.

The fellowships offer an annual salary of $40,000 Canadian for a period of two
years from start date. The Centre does not provide additional funds for travel
and research, nor will funding be extended beyond the two-year period. Such
funding may, however, be negotiated with individual supervisors.

Eligibility:
A candidate must hold, or be at the final stages of completing a Ph.D. in any
field related to the study of speech and language at an accredited university.
Candidates with more than five years of post-Ph.D. research training by the
competition deadline are not eligible to apply for this award. Any interruption
in a candidate's post-Ph.D. research training will be taken into account in
determining eligibility.

Application Process
To apply for one of these fellowships, please consult a current list of Centre
members at http://www.crlmb.mcgill.ca/initiatives/about/members.html and secure
a commitment from a least one centre member who will act as your advisor, and
then send:

- Your CV
- the application form, in which the following information is required:
background and training, career goals, areas of research interest and
research skills and the relevance to CRLMB's research interest areas, and
personal goals and expected outcomes for the post-doctoral fellowship. This
letter must address the candidate's interest in issues of human
communication as well as CRLMB's specific topic areas.
- a detailed project description or description of particular interest in
CRLMB's research areas
-two reprints, manuscripts or brief sections of a doctoral dissertation
and publications that demonstrate writing ability and analytical methods
used in research
- two written references, preferably from the most recent research
supervisors (to be mailed by the references). References should speak about
the suitability of the applicant for this program and in particular the
relevance of the applicant's interests in CRLMB's research area
- Transcripts (including undergraduate work) - copies will be accepted

The CRLMB Student Affairs committee will begin assessing applications as of
December 1, 2005 and will continue until the positions are filled.

Successful candidates will be expected to submit semi-annual progress reports to
the Centre.
