Description:

The Department of Linguistics at Oakland University invites applications for a
tenure track position as assistant professor of linguistics, to begin August 1,
2006.  Within theoretical linguistics, the area of specialization is open;
preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching interests
complement the Department's existing strengths.  The minimum requirement is a
Ph.D. in Linguistics, awarded by August 1, 2006.  The position requires a strong
background in formal linguistics and a commitment to research and teaching.  The
appointee will be expected to teach courses in the core areas of linguistics and
in general education, as well as  participate in the ongoing development of the
Department's undergraduate and graduate programs.  A letter of interest,
curriculum vitae, samples of work and three letters of reference should be sent
to the address below.  Candidates are encouraged to include a list of courses
that they have taken as graduate students as well as a list of courses they
would like to teach.  Preliminary interviews with members of the search
committee will be held at the LSA Annual Meeting in Albuquerque, January 5-8,
2006.  Candidates who plan on attending the meeting should indicate this in
their letter of application and should submit their completed applications by
December 15, 2005 so that interviews can be arranged; those unable to attend are
still encouraged to apply.  All applications must be received by January 15,
2006 to receive full consideration. Candidates are encouraged to visit the

located about 25 miles north of Detroit, is a state-supported university with
16,000 students.  The community offers extensive cultural and social activities.
