Description:

The Butler Hill Group is in need of "as-needed" evaluators for machine
translation systems in the languages above. This is an excellent opportunity for
language teachers, translators, and students to become involved with our network
of 800 linguistic professionals.

For this project, we would like to put several evaluators under contract for a
long-term relationship involving very sporadic work (possibly no more than one
project per year, where the projects require about 10 hours of time over about a
week, with completely flexible scheduling). In some cases, more projects come up
at very short notice, but you would be under no obligation to accept a given
project.

The work involves reading automatic translations of sentences into your target
language, rating them on a scale of 1 to 4, and selecting the best of 2
sentences relative to an English source or a human-translated reference.

This work pays $25/hr as 1099 (freelance) self-employment income. Dates are
"as-needed", but we expect the first project around the end of November for most
languages. This work can be done completely offsite (US or abroad), from your
Windows computer. You must have Microsoft Access 2000 or greater installed for
this work.

Requirements include a tolerance for (and demonstrated experience) with doing
very repetitive and detail-oriented tasks; good communication skills in English;
native-level knowledge of one or more of the target languages; demonstrated
experience in writing, editing, teaching, or proofreading in the target
languages (professional level knowledge of grammar and style rules); better than
average ability to manage files and applications on your Windows computer;
broadband internet connection; knowledge of technical vocabulary in your language.

You must have US work authorization if US based. Sorry, but the Butler Hill
