The date for submission of abstracts has been extended to 30 September 2005.

Applications of speech technology that are implemented in multilingual
environments have to be robust to variations in accent. The purpose of the
workshop is to address issues related to multilingual speech and language
processing. Workshop topics include (but are not limited to):
- Accent modelling for multilingual automatic speech recognition
- Accent identification
- Pronunciation variation modelling
- Multilingual speech synthesis

the world.

Semantics and Linguistic Theory

University of Tokyo, March 22-24, 2006

Submission deadline:  November 14, 2006 

We invite submissions of abstracts for 30-minute presentations (plus 10-minute
discussions) on any topic pertaining to natural language semantics with
relevance to linguistic theory.  Abstracts must be anonymous and should be at
most 2 pages (A4 or US Letter) in length (including examples and references)
using a 12 pt font with 1-inch (2.5 cm) margins on all four sides.  In the
interest of fairness, these limitations will be strictly enforced.  

POLICY

Authors may be involved in at most two submissions and may be the sole author of
at most one abstract.  No single author will be allowed to give more than one
presentation at the conference.

As a matter of general policy, SALT does not accept papers that at the time of
the conference have been published or have been accepted for publication.  In
addition, preference will be given to presentations that are not duplicated at
other major conferences.  We therefore request that authors indicate prior or
planned presentations of their papers along with their contact information when
they submit their abstracts.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

All speakers will receive up to ¥100,000 (approximately US $900) as partial
reimbursement for travel related expenses.

PROCEEDINGS

All papers presented at the conference will be published in a SALT 16 volume
following the conclusion of the conference.

We strongly encourage electronic submissions, which may be sent to:

We ask authors to adhere to the following guidelines: 

Please write the submitting author's name plus the word 'abstract' in the
subject line of your message (e.g., 'Jones abstract'), and include author
name(s), affiliation(s), contact information, title of the abstract, and up to 3
keywords in the body of the email.

Please send the abstract as an attachment.  The abstract should include the
title, but not author name(s).  We prefer .pdf files but will also accept plain
text or MS-Word readable files; if you send the latter, we ask that you send us
an .rtf file rather than a .doc file.  

If circumstances force you to send your abstract via regular mail, please submit
1 anonymous printed copy plus a separate card giving the title of the abstract,
author name(s), affiliation(s), contact information, and up to 3 keywords.  Also
include both the abstract and the accompanying information as separate .pdf,
.rtf or text files on an appropriate machine-readable medium such as a floppy
disk or a CD.  Mailed abstracts should be sent to:

DEADLINE
