The Department of Linguistics in the Faculty of Arts at the University of 
Alberta invites applications for a Lecturership. This position is intended 
for an exceptionally strong teacher of linguistics with responsibilities 
for lower level and senior level undergraduate linguistics courses. 
Qualified candidates should hold a PhD in Linguistics. The Lecturer will 
teach eight semester-long courses within each academic year, with the 
possibility of one course relief for teaching administration.  The 
University of Alberta is committed to WebCT as an online course management
system and the appointee should be prepared to use this system. The
position itself involves no research responsibilities. The Lecturer will be
appointed for a five-year term (renewable).

The Department of Linguistics has a strong commitment to quality in 
teaching and research. The Department of Linguistics has participated in 
Community Service Learning, developed online, interactive learning 
objects, and integrated a state-of-the-art Humanities Computing Lab into 
selected courses. There are eleven full-time continuing faculty members in

Established in 1908 as a board-governed, public institution, the 
University of Alberta has earned the reputation of being one of the best 
universities in Canada based on our strengths in teaching, research, and 
services. The University of Alberta serves over 36,000 students in more 
than 200 undergraduate programs and 170 graduate programs

faculty on campus, and one of the largest research and teaching centres in

Edmonton is located only a few hours drive from Banff and Jasper National 
Parks, which offer skiing in winter and excellent hiking and sightseeing 
in summer.

Salary is at the Assistant Professor level and is commensurate with
