Subject Language(s): German, Standard (deu)

Meeting Description:

The aim of this conference is to discuss the conditions necessary for an optimal acquisition of the German language and the mother tongue, and we want to put emphasis on the fact that multilingualism should be seen as a chance for children, not as an obstacle!

The international conference titled ?Frühe Mehrsprachigkeit: Mythen - Risiken - Chancen'' (Early multilingualism: myths - risks - chances) is organized by the Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg in co-operation with Prof. Rosemarie Tracy from the University of Mannheim.

This conference particularly aims at the multiplicatory level, e.g. representatives of politics, (school) administrations, linguistics, foundations and diplomatic organizations.

We want to discuss the measures that have to be taken by politicians, companies and society to enable children of emigrants to make use of their natural talent to learn languages. We want to provide information about the typical stages children go through when acquiring a language and we want to end with some wide-spread myths on early multilingualism.

We want to provide knowledge on the conditions necessary for an optimal acquisition of the German language and the mother tongue, and we want to put emphasis on the fact that multilingualism should be seen as a chance for children, not as an obstacle!
