''Ukrainian onomastics in Slavonic and World Context (topical trends and new methods of studies, achievements, prospects, interdisciplinary connections)''

Chernivtsi National University, Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, Linguistic Society of Bukovyna, invite you to attend the conference ''Ukrainian onomastics in Slavonic and World Context (topical trends and new methods of studies, achievements, prospects, interdisciplinary connections)'' that will take place from October 31 till November 3, 2007, in Chernivtsi, Ukraine
Scientific programme

Sections:
-	Regional onomastics in synchrony and diachrony.
-	Ukrainian toponymy and anthroponymy in interrlingual and interlinguistic ties.
-	Problems of standardization and normalization of Ukrainian and Slavonic toponyms.
-	Spelling problems and norms of nomina propria.
-	Ukrainian ties with other languages and similar coinages in onomastics of Bukovyna and bordering areas.
-	Theoretical onomastics (onomastic lexicography and terminology, onomastics and etymology, new methods of onomastic research).
-	Literary (poetics of an onym) and folklore onomastics.
-	Typology of global toponymic and anthroponymic systems.
-	Onomastics and cognitive linguistics (mutual ties between the disciplines).
-	Neoonomastics (new classes of names: ergonyms, kosmonyms, loginonyms, firmonyms?)

We would ask you to  register by March 1, 2007 about your participation in the conference by filling in registration form and send it by regular or e-mail. We would also ask you to take care about return/roundtrip tickets.
Arrival and placement of participants will take place on October 31, Closing day - November 3, 2007.

Registration of participants will take place on the day of arrival (October 31, 2007) at Philology Faculty of Chernivtsi University. Address: Chernivtsi University, Philology Faculty, second floor, 2, Kotsiubynskoho Str., Chernivtsi.
Plenary session will take place in the Red Hall of Chernivtsi University, 2, Kotsiubynskoho Str., Building No. 5 of the former Residence) November 1, from 10:00 till 13:00.

Languages of the conference: All Slavonic Languages and English.

How to get to the university:
1)	From railway station: Take trolley-buses No. 3 or 5 to bus stop Puppet Theatre, and then walk on till you reach Central Square, then turn left to the Chernivtsi cinema and take trolley-buses Nos. 2 or 4, or buses No. 2, 4, 5 to the bus stop University.
2)	From Coach station: take trolleybus No 3 to the bus stop Shkilna (which is opposite Puppet Theatre) and then reach Chernivtsi cinema and then and take trolley-buses Nos. 2 or 4, or buses No. 2, 4, 5 to the bus stop University.
Abstracts and papers will be published before the conference start in Naukovyi Visnyk of Chernivtsi University, Slavonic Philology.
Accomodation: 1) in the hostels of Chernivtsi University and Bukovynian Medical University (1 night 40 hryvnas, number of rooms is limited); 2) in Bukovyna, Tourist, and Cheremosh hotels (one room per night is 160-180 hryvnas, breakfast included; suite - 250-270 hryvnas per night, breakfast and supper included).
Lunch: at university cafeteria.
NB! Conference organizers consider possibility of partial (accommodation expenses) and full (meals) compensation of expenses of participants for sponsors' donations and grant.
Registration fees are 50 hryvnas (may be paid on arrival day).

2nd Call for Papers

Abstracts dealing with issues pertaining to the nature of parametric variation are especially encouraged. 

Abstracts are invited for 20-minute presentations (plus 10 minutes discussion) on topics dealing with formal aspects of any area of theoretical Altaic linguistics, including syntax, phonology, morphology, and semantics. Deadline for receipt of abstracts is December 31, 2006. Email submissions (pdf format) only.

Abstracts should be no more than 2 pages long. Submissions are limited to one abstract per author.
