International Summer School on Processability Theory and Second Language Acquisition

Location: Lija, Malta
Date: Sept. 19-22, 2006

This summer school will provide an in-depth training in Processability Theory
(PT), one of the leading theories of second language acquisition. The course is
designed for postgraduate students and staff in linguistics/applied linguistics
who want to extend their expertise in SLA.

The course will cover all major aspects of PT, including developmental
schedules, interlanguage variation, L1 transfer, acquisition criteria and
distributional analysis as well as the application of PT to Arabic, Chinese,
English, German, Italian, Japanese and Swedish. PT has two major implications
for practice, (1) linguistic profiling and (2) timed instruction. Both areas
will be covered in this course. The unit on linguistic profiling is based on the
Rapid Profile package, and the computer software and manual will be made
available to course participants together with a virtual training environment.
Successful training with Rapid Profile will be certified.

Pienemann, M. 2005 (ed.) Cross-linguistic aspects of Processability Theory. John
Benjamins

These two books are available to course participants at a 50% discount and the
Rapid Profile software package is available at a 90% discount if ordered before
15 June 06.
