Meeting Description:

The Second Language Research Forum (SLRF) is a prestigious and internationally renowned conference which brings together researchers in second language acquisition (SLA) from all over the world. It is the premier conference on SLA in North America providing a venue for established scholars and graduate students to present work on a wide variety of theoretical and empirical issues in SLA including cognitive, linguistic and sociolinguistic SLA research conducted in both laboratory and classroom settings.

The theme of the conference is "In Search of the 'Zen' of Second Language Acquisition: Examining the Learner at the Crossroads of Language, Culture and Identity." With our theme, we seek to gain clarity around the experiences of SLA with a focus on various sociocultural facets of language learners. We are seeking proposals that reflect the converging approaches and methods that different disciplines bring to the study of language, culture, and identity.

Please choose one submission format:
a) Paper Presentations: 20 minutes long with a 10-minute discussion period
b) Poster Presentations: to be displayed for a 3-hour block of time; they are intended as a format for reports of work in progress

Email submissions to slrf at u.washington.edu including the following:

I.  In the subject heading of the e-mail message please type ''Poster Submission'' OR ''Paper Submission''.

II.  In the body of the e-mail message, please fill all of the following fields in the given order (you may want to copy and paste this into your e-mail):

  1. TITLE OF PRESENTATION (Maximum ten words) 
  2. PRESENTER'S NAME (FAMILY, GIVEN) 
    DEPARTMENT & AFFILIATION 
    MAILING ADDRESS (Incl. CITY, STATE/PROV., ZIP/POSTAL CODE) 
    COUNTRY 
    PHONE 
    FAX 
    E-MAIL ADDRESS  
    (Repeat the above fields for any Co-Presenters) 

 3. GENERAL RESEARCH AREA OF PRESENTATION (any that apply): 

Bilingualism, child SLA, classroom, cognitive approaches, lexicon/vocabulary, morphology, multilingualism, oral discourse, phonology/phonetics, pragmatics, reading, research methodology, sociocultural approaches, sociolinguistic approaches, syntax, technology, testing, written discourse, UG and OTHER  

  4. SUMMARY OF THE PRESENTATION no longer than 50 words. This will be included in the program booklet if your paper is accepted. 

III. As an attachment, please include an ABSTRACT OF THE PRESENTATION. The attachment must be either a Microsoft Word document or in Rich Text Format (RTF) and include any special fonts (e.g. IPA) you have used. Please do not exceed 400 words in length. Please also ensure that the title of the paper or poster appears as the first line of the document. However, do not include the author(s)' name(s) or other obvious reference to the author(s) in the document as these abstracts will be distributed for blind review.

The 6th International Symposium on Processability, Second Language Acquisition and Bilingualism (Lija, Malta 22/Sep/2006 - 24/Sep/2006) 

Submissions of work related to Processability Theory, Second Language Acquisition Research and Bilingualism are invited in the following two categories:

(1) Research papers (30 minutes)
(2) Presentations on work in progress, e.g. by postgraduate students (20 minutes).

Your submission should include your name, position, contact details, affiliation
and an abstract of 200 words including key references. Please send submissions to the symposium convenor (processabilitysummerschool at upb.de) by 30 April 2006.

All the abstracts will be reviewed, and notifications will be sent by 30 May 2006.
