We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

I am looking for information on acquisition of post-vocalic and syllabic r
(primarily by American English speaking children). Most of the sources
I've found describe acquisition in binary terms--at any given point either
the child has acquired the phoneme or s/he has not. What are really relevant
for me though, are the mistakes children make on their way to full mastery.
Does anyone know where I might look for qualitative descriptions of common
errors in r production?

Thanks!

Dear linguists,

I am trying to measure the loudness of vowels with different levels of
prominence using Praat (Boersma and Weenink,
http://www.fon.hum.uva.nl/praat/). I would like to use a standard measure
such as Mark VII, so the results are comparable with those in other papers.
Do you know if this measure is built in Praat? If not, does anyone have a
script that could be used for that purpose?

Thank you for your help,

Marta
