Graduate Teaching Assistantships in Spanish are available for the support of
students beginning study in Fall 2006 in the two-year Master of Arts program in
Spanish at Miami University. The program is open to candidates of any
nationality and offers a US master's-level degree in any one of three different
concentrations: Spanish linguistics, Latin American literature, and Peninsular
literature. Students interested in linguistics can work closely with faculty
specialized in several fields including Historical Linguistics, Formal
Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, and Second Language Acquisition. Graduate
Teaching Assistants must demonstrate native or near-native proficiency in
Spanish and English and a strong undergraduate background in Hispanic language
and literature. Graduate Teaching Assistants are responsible for teaching one
section of elementary Spanish per semester under the supervision of a faculty
member. All Graduate Assistants receive a stipend for their nine-month
appointment ($10,172 for the 05-06 academic year), in addition to remission of
tuition and out-of-state tuition surcharge (students are responsible for certain
fees and insurance). Summer support is also available for those wishing to
register for thesis hours during the summer.
The deadline for applications is February 15th. Non-US citizens are encouraged
to apply by January 30th.
