We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at
http://linguistlist.org/LL/posttolinguist.html.

Dear colleagues,

We at the University of Potsdam are studying cross-linguistic variation in
the ordering of wh-phrases in 'multiple' wh-questions such as, e.g. ''Who
bought what?''

We would like to kindly ask native speakers of the following languages to
give us their grammaticality judgments on a number of such sentences, by
filling in the on-line questionnaire at

http://www.ling.uni-potsdam.de/fogra3/new/

The target languages:

Albanian
Bulgarian
Dutch
English
French
German
Georgian
Hindi
Icelandic
Italian
Lebanese Arabic
Persian
Polish
Russian
Vietnamese

The estimated time for completing the questionnaire is between 5-10 minutes.

We are interested in a larger sample of respondents, so, if possible,
please pass this request to your colleagues or students who might also be
interested.

Research on these constructions is done as part of the Research Unit FOR
375 ''Conflicting Rules in Cognitive Science'' funded by the German
Research Foundation (DFG).

Many thanks,

Arthur Stepanov

Dear Linguists,

I am searching for a questionnaire as well as methods for collecting
proverbs from unwritten languages. Additinally, I need a classificatory
scheme to categorize proverbs.

I appreciate your kind and prompt help in this regard and hope to hear from
you soon.

Sincerely,

M.-R. Fakhr-Rohani
