We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

For a current project, I would like to consult a list of adjectives that
undergo suppletion in the formation of the comparative, as in English (and
other Indo-European languages):

good --> better (*gooder)

A pointer to a reference would be very welcome. On the chance that no
comprehensive list has been compiled, I am interested in collecting
examples, and will put a list together.

Thanks,

Subject: Frankish and (Classical) Arabic Dictionaries

In my dissertation work, I have needed to get etymologies for several
Romance words which have roots in various super- and sub-strata. However,
I am at a loss for a Frankish 'dictionary', as well as one for (Classical)
Arabic which has the word in question written in both Roman and Arabic
script.  For many of the words I have their meanings, but some I do not;
additionally, I need the genders of the words in question.

Any resources would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance,
Sarah Harmon
