Meeting Description:

Organizing a panel on pragmatic markers with a focus on items other than DMs,
especially the less studied varieties such as commentary markers and parallel
markers (in the classification of Fraser 1996). In keeping with the special
theme of the conference, we would like contributions to reflect on issues of
corpora and data collection. Historical and comparative approaches welcome. 

Bruce Fraser and Neal Norrick are organizing a panel on pragmatic markers for
the 10th International Pragmatics Conference in Göteborg, Sweden, 9-13 July
2007. Maj-Britt Mosegaard Hansen has already agreed to participate and provide
a historical pragmatics perspective. If you have relevant research to report and
you're interested in joining us in Göteborg, contact Neal Norrick at

Papers are invited in all areas of linguistics.  In addition, the College of
Arts and Sciences at Oakland University has announced next year's 'Celebrating
the Liberal Arts' theme, 'Global Citizenship',  which will give the campus a
chance to take a closer look at the sociological, cultural, linguistic, and
economic dimensions of globalization, including topics like bilingualism and
English as a global language. Papers relevant to this theme are especially
welcome and, if there is sufficient response, we will group the papers together
into a special session for the day.

Presentations will be fifteen minutes in length plus five minutes for
discussion.  The final program will be announced on October 1, 2006.

Abstract submission guidelines:

-Deadline for receipt of abstracts is September 15, 2006. 
-Abstracts should be limited to 500 words excluding references.
-The title of the abstract should appear at the top of the abstract and the
author's name, abstract title, affiliation and email address should appear on a
separate page, which should also include any special requests for audio-visual
equipment.
-Abstracts should be submitted electronically to Dawn Henretty,
djhenret at oakland.edu, in Word (doc) Word Perfect (wpd) or Adobe Acrobat (pdf)
format.
-Abstracts may also be submitted as hard copy by faxing three copies to the
attention of the MLS Abstract Review Committee at 248-370-3144 or mailing three
copies to MLS 2006, Department of Linguistics, Oakland University, Rochester MI
48309-4401.

Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously, and notification of acceptance will be
sent by October 1, 2006.  Registration, conference information, and a campus map
can be found on the website of the Linguistics Department at Oakland University:
