The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

University or Organization: New York University
Department: Departments of Linguistics and Psychology
Specialty Areas: Neurolinguistics

Description:

Two research positions are available at NYU in the cognitive neuroscience
of language. Please apply only for one position, but indicate in your cover
letter whether you would like to be considered for both. Psycholinguistic
experience is relatively more important for the Neuromorphology Research
Assistantship and technical skills for the Neurolinguistics Lab Manager
position.

**************

Descriptions:

1.	Lab Manager Position

The NYU Neurolinguistics Laboratory is looking to fill a full-time Lab
Manager position. Starting date is negotiable, but preferably September
2006 or before.

The NYU Neurolinguistics Lab uses a combination of behavioral and MEG
measurements to investigate lexical, morphological, syntactic and semantic
processing. The position would be ideal for a person with a BA/SB or MA/SM
degree who is interested in gaining significant research experience in the
cognitive neuroscience of language.

The lab manager will be involved in all stages of the execution and
analysis of experiments. Previous experience with MEG or some other
cognitive neuroscience method is highly preferred but can be compensated by
otherwise strong technical skills. Basic statistical skills are essential
and some programming ability preferred. The lab manager must have excellent
interpersonal skills, as the position requires mediating between multiple
research sites (the Linguistics and Psychology departments of NYU as well
as the NYU Medical Center). In addition to research activities, the lab
manager will be responsible for oversight of lab activities and equipment.

To apply, please contact Prof. Liina Pylkkanen (liina.pylkkanen at nyu.edu) by
email.

2.	Research Assistant Position

The neuromorphology project of the Departments of Linguistics and
Psychology at NYU is looking to fill a full-time Research Assistant
position. Starting date is negotiable, but September 2006 is preferred. The
position is for a one year initial appointment, with the possibility of
extension beyond that time. Salary is competitive, with benefits included.
The position would be ideal for a person with a BA/SB or MA/SM degree who
is interested in gaining significant research experience with MEG and
neurolinguistics prior to entering a PhD program.

The successful applicant will take a leading role in research on the
cognitive neuroscience of language. Much of the job will involve analysis
of data from MEG experiments and preparation of materials for further
experiments. The RA will take occasional trips to the KIT/MIT MEG
Laboratory at MIT for data collection. Experience in linguistics and/or
psycholinguistics is preferred. A statistics background would be desirable.
Computer skills, preferably with Matlab, are essential. For more
information, contact Prof. Alec Marantz, marantz at mit.edu, (617) 253-9373.

To apply, please contact Prof. Marantz (marantz at mit.edu) (who takes up a
position at NYU in September of 2005) by email.
