The Department of Japanese Studies of Leiden University seeks to appoint a
tenure-track position in language aquisition and lingusitics. The details

The Department of Japanese Studies seeks to appoint in the field of
language and linguistics. Fluency in the Japanese language is essential, as
is a strong professional background and proven experience in teaching
Japanese as a foreign language. There is a strong preference for candidates
with a formal qualification in teaching Japanese as a foreign language. 
Preference will also be given to those candidates with a disciplinary
background and research interests in Japanese linguistics, supported by a
Ph.D. in this field.  The successful candidate will be responsible for
leading a team of language teachers, for introducing innovation into the
language-learning environment at both the undergraduate and postgraduate
level, and (ideally) for supplying teaching in the field of Japanese
linguistics.
Preference is for candidates who have proven administrative and management
skills and willingness to actively take part in administrative and
managerial tasks.
Leiden University is one of the oldest and most established centres of
Asian Studies in Europe.  It has a strong tradition of internationalisation. 
All of its graduate teaching is conducted in English and English can also be
used at undergraduate level. 

This permanent position has a two-year probation period.
The monthly gross salary depends on qualifications and experience of the
applicant with a minimum of € €3.024.
Non-Dutch speaking individuals will be expected to learn Dutch within two
years.
Short listed candidates will be interviewed in Leiden.  Short listing will
be based upon a letter of application (which should include details of
language teaching experience and a five year research plan, where
appropriate) and a detailed CV.  Two letters of recommendation will be
requested of short-listed candidates.  Publications may also be requested
(where appropriate).
