The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:

University of Oxford

Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages

Two Postgraduate Studentships in Romance Linguistics

The University of Oxford is recruiting candidates for two AHRC-funded
doctoral (DPhil.) studentships, to be awarded as part of a major research
project Autonomous Morphology in Diachrony: comparative evidence from the
Romance languages.

Professor Martin Maiden will be the principal supervisor of projects on
'The historical morphology of selected Ibero-Romance dialects' and 'The
historical morphology of selected Gallo-Romance dialects'.

A good first degree in a relevant area of linguistics and an excellent
knowledge of at least one of Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, Occitan or
French will be required. Consideration may be given to candidates whose
main expertise lies in other Romance languages. A formal postgraduate
qualification in a relevant area must be completed by the time the
studentship commences. Candidates who do not have such a qualification
must show evidence of sustained experience beyond first degree level that
is specifically relevant to the doctoral research project.

The studentships will commence from 1 October 2006 and will be for three
years. UK residents will be awarded maintenance fees at the normal AHRC
rate as well as tuition fees. Nationals of a member state of the EU other
than UK who do not meet UK residence requirements are eligible for a
fees-only award.

The closing date for applications is 21 July 2006. For further details
please contact Professor Martin Maiden at the address below, tel. (01865)
270488, email martin.maiden at mod-langs.ox.ac.uk, or Miss Samantha Valentine.
