Meeting Description: 

Every year the Linguistics Department of the University of Maryland organizes a state-of-the-art linguistics workshop. This year's Mayfest is a Language Learning Fest, devoted to research on the role of input and how it is processed by children in first language acquisition. Its two principal aims are (i) to bring together language acquisition researchers representing theoretical, experimental and computational approaches, and (ii) to promote discussions and interactions among researches with different perspectives so as to further our understanding of the field. 

The program consists of presentations by invited speakers, representing contrasting theoretical and methodological perspectives (e.g., experimental, statistical, cue-based, computational modeling) in the field of phonological and syntactic development. Following the presentations, there will be two discussion sessions (phonology and syntax), in which our faculty members, Bill Idsardi and Jeff Lidz, will summarize and present commentaries on the presentations to facilitate the discussions between the audience and the presenters.
