The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

The linguistics department of the University of Nice is seeking
applications for a one-year position in Gallo-Romance or Romance
diachronics/ dialectology, starting September 1st, 2006. The position may
be renewed for a second year, and eventually be transformed into a
permanent life-time position. Service includes 192h of teaching duty (per
year), but the research profile is decisive.

The successful candidate will work for the research programme THESOC
(Thésaurus Occitan, http://195.221.140.202/) of the CNRS laboratory 'Bases,
Corpus, Langage' (www.unice.fr/bcl), which is concerned with diatopic
variation and lexical reconstruction (development of new approaches to
etymology based on the motivational analysis of the linguistic sign).
The successful candidate will have a strong record in either diachronics of
the Romance languages, dialectology, semantics or lexicology. Any
combination of course increases prospect.

Legal conditions: candidates must either hold a Ph.D or be engaged in the
last year of their doctoral studies *in a French University*.
Conditions of submission: the application form and detailed guidelines (all
in French only) can be downloaded at

hardcopy to the address specified before June 2nd, 2006.
Wages: around 1500 Euros/ month (pending on social and other properties of
the candidate) for 12 months.
