Interim Director, TESOL Education Program, Stony Brook University

The Department of Linguistics at Stony Brook University invites
applications for a position as Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting
Lecturer, to begin in Fall 2006 to serve as interim director of the TESOL
teacher education program at Stony Brook University.  

The successful candidate will have leadership qualities as a teacher
educator and researcher, familiarity with standards-based curriculum
development and assessment, and will teach pedagogy and applied linguistics
courses. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in TESOL pedagogy
and applied linguistics. Administrative responsibilities (with reduced
teaching load) include advisement and oversight of the program, including
preparation for TESOL/NCATE national recognition and participation in
related activities in the Department of Linguistics and the Professional
Education Program.

Required:  Ph.D. degree in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or related
field for the Visiting Assistant Professor position. Master's degree in
Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or related field for the Visiting
Lecturer position. Teaching experience in TESOL pedagogy courses,
experience in Pre K-12 educational settings, and commitment to student
advising and program development.

Preferred: NYS TESOL Teaching Certification (or equivalent), teaching and
research experience in a field related to TESOL, experience in program
administration and successful teacher education-related grant application.
Familiarity with New York State, NCATE, and TESOL teacher education
standards and assessment; experience teaching in Pre K-12 schools; and
pre-service and in-service teacher education and supervision.     

The term of appointment is for one year, beginning Fall 2006, with a
possibility of renewal. Please send a CV, sample papers or publications,
