Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1st October 2007
or such earlier date as may be arranged. 

The successful candidate will have an outstanding record in research and
publication in their particular field and will be expected to play a major
part in sustaining and promoting research and teaching in linguistics at
Oxford. The professor will offer intellectual leadership in linguistics and
make his or her expertise available to colleagues and students with a wide
range of interests, from cognitive science to comparative philology.

A non stipendiary Professorial Fellowship at Somerville College is attached
to the professorship.
