Description:

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (EALL), the
Department of Linguistics, and the Center for Applied Second Language
Studies (CASLS) at the University of Oregon announce a joint, open-rank
(assistant, associate, or full professor) opening for the position of
Chinese Flagship Academic Director. The position will be responsible for
the intellectual and academic direction of the Oregon Chinese Flagship
Program, an innovative national model of advanced language learning. This
full-time appointment will consist of a .5 FTE tenure-related appointment
and a .5 FTE non-tenure-related appointment in CASLS. The tenure-related
appointment will be made in either EALL or Linguistics, depending on the
successful candidate's research and teaching profile.

Requirements: record of excellence in published research in Chinese
language teaching and learning, literature, linguistics or related field;
doctoral degree; native or near-native ability in spoken and written
Chinese; experience teaching Chinese as a second language at the
postsecondary level.

Preferred Qualifications: proven record of national leadership in Chinese
language learning and teaching; experience working with K-12 programs;
expertise in advanced-level language teaching, teacher training,
assessment, curriculum development, and content-based language teaching.

Primary duties: developing a national model of kindergarten through
university Chinese language education in cooperation with Portland Public
Schools, a variety of University departments and centers, and national
partners; maintaining a strong research profile; teaching advanced-level
Chinese language courses; working with faculty to develop and deliver
college-level content classes in Chinese; teach occasional courses in his
or her areas of expertise; ability to work effectively with faculty, staff
and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
