Board of Regents Graduate Fellowship for the Ph.D. Program in Applied Language
and Speech Sciences, University of Louisiana at Lafayette

Applications are invited for Fall 2007 for the Applied Language and Speech
Sciences (ALSS) doctoral degree program in the Department of Communicative
Disorders at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Qualified applicants may
also apply for the Board of Regents Fellowship, which runs for four years and
pays $20,000 per annum (plus $4000 if students are registered over the summer).

Applicants should have a prior degree in communication disorders or a related
discipline, and an interest in pursuing research into some aspect of disordered
communication. The research interests of faculty are given on the department
website: http://speechandlanguage.louisiana.edu/ , and applicants are expected
to nominate a preferred mentor at the time of application. Ongoing research in
the department includes clinical aphasiology, clinical phonetics and  phonology,
language and dementia, language and literacy, stuttering, voice, motor speech
disorders, augmentative and alternative communication, and autism.

Applicants should also study the Graduate School website for information on the
application process (http://gradschool.louisiana.edu/ ). The ALSS coordinator is
Dr John Tetnowski who should be contacted for details of departmental
requirements when applying for the ALSS program.

The Board of Regents Fellowship is open to US citizens and permanent residents
only.  Normally, applicants are expected to have GRE scores falling in the range
above 600 on each of the normed areas with a preference given to those
candidates with the highest scores. Also, applicants holding the Bachelors
degree should present an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher (on a four point scale);
while those with a Master's degree must have completed graduate coursework with
a cumulative GPA of at least 3.9. Further, candidates for a Regents Fellowship
in the ALSS Ph.D. program must also submit a writing sample in the form of a
manuscript suitable for publication, or a paper that has been presented at a
conference, or, preferably, that has appeared in a refereed journal.
