The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:

The Department of Comparative Human Development invites applications for a
tenure-track assistant or associate professor specializing in the area of
language and comparative human development. The Department operates an
interdisciplinary research and graduate training program in the Division of
the Social Sciences, specializing in the biosocial and psychocultural study
of human development over the life span. We seek a broadly trained scholar
interested in the role of language in development within social
interactional and/or cultural comparative contexts. Particular
specialization is less important than a demonstrated capacity to engage in
innovative research and substantive multidisciplinary dialogue. Relevant
specializations might include, but are not limited to, language as a
mediator of socialization, multilingualism, creolization and
grammaticization processes, development of narrative or discursive skills,
first and/or second language acquisition (in comparative perspective),
language and the constitution of self (including cognitive and affective
dimensions), and the psychological and sociological aspects of the
specialized uses of language in institutional settings (e.g., clinic,
classroom, etc.).

Please submit a letter of application, vita, a list of referees, and any
relevant papers.
