Meeting Description:

The main aim of the conference is to provide a forum for discussing
concepts and methods related to assessment of foreign language learning in
higher education, with an emphasis on:

- Linguistic competences;

- Pragmatic and discursive competences in interaction;

- (Inter-)cultural competences. 

Target audience:

- Staff working in foreign language teaching in higher education
(Departments of foreign languages, language centres, institutes for foreign
students, etc.);
- Language and (inter-)cultural test developers for/in higher education;
- Graduate and postgraduate students interested in foreign language
teaching/learning in higher education;
- Teacher trainers/trainees;
- Intercultural trainers involved in language teaching;
- Researchers in language assessment.

Papers are invited on any of the following themes (among others):

- self-assessment & peer-assessment;
- representations / discourse on assessing language and (inter-)cultural  
   competences (teachers & learners);
- restraints imposed on by institutional contexts in terms assessment;
- grammar/vocabulary vs. pragmatic and discursive competences;
- impact/use of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in
assessing competences in higher education;
- the use of new technology in assessing competences;
- opportunities for assessing (inter-)cultural competences.

Meeting Description:

CGSW 22 will be held at the Institute of English Linguistics, University of Stuttgart, June 8-9, 2007.

We are pleased to announce the following invited speakers:

Anna Cardinaletti, University of Venice;
Gisbert Fanselow, University of Potsdam. 

Call:
We invite abstracts for thirty-minute talks (followed by ten minutes of discussion) on any aspect of comparative Germanic syntax, including diachronic syntax and the interface between syntax and other components of the grammar.

Guidelines:
Abstracts should not exceed two pages (letter-size/A4) in total length (including data and references), with one-inch margins all around, typed in at least 11-point font. Submissions are restricted to one individual and one joint abstract per author.

Submission:
We intend to use an online form for the submission of abstracts, which will be made available on our webpage later in the Fall. The deadline for submissions is February 1, 2007, and we will send out notifications of acceptance April 1, 2007.
